B.A.A.G.G.L. HISTORY

The concept of BAAGGL first started in the San Francisco Bay Area with Wayne Evans and Nick Costa in October 1989.  By December of 1989 the membership consisted of four members. Wayne Evans of Small Business Lending, Nick Costa of Cupertino National Bank, Les Crabb of California Business Bank, and Howard Hoover of Coast Commercial Bank. (Howard Hoover is the one credited with naming BAAGGL) We would have had a fifth member, Glen Good, however he thought it was a dumb idea.

We had an idea that a local organization, representing local issues, with local lenders, working with the local SBA, would benefit everybody. We were encouraged by the welcomed support of the SBA. The SBA saw us as an opportunity to work with the private sector. The private sector saw us as an catalyst to learn the nuances of government guaranteed lending. We exchanged information and ideas with-in the SBA community and communicated ideas and concerns to the SBA. The SBA viewed BAAGGL as and information vehicle linked to the lending community. BAAGGL has proven that government and the private sector can work together effectively.

Today BAAGGL has almost 150 organizational members in Northern California. With two to seven active participants from each organization. Comprised mostly of banks and non-bank lenders, with representation from appraisers, accountants, environmental companies, insurance representatives, mortgage brokers, and many others.

BAAGGL, along with co-sponsors Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and SCORE were significant contributors to the San Francisco SBA’s, State of the Art "Entrepreneur Center" and training facility. Thanks to the generous contributions of members.
